UNIT 12 AND 13 WEEK BY WEEK PLAN

Week 13:

POST PRODUCTION

By now you should complete the production part of your project and dedicate this week to post production / editing of your piece. Whatever you have chosen to do for your personal project this week you will concentrate on putting your creative project together into a final piece. It is very important that you show evidence of your post production process and give us an idea what skills and techniques you have used in its process. You will show important steps you have taken during post production by taking screen grabs and evaluating the editing process. You will also comment on feedback you have been given by your tutors and your peers and tell us what you have changed as a result of feedback given.

You will continue your weakly video vlogs and also will make sure that your e-portfolio is up to date and reflects development of your project.

Week 11 &12:

PRODUCTION

You should allow yourself at least two weeks for the production of your project. During this time you should make sure to keep the production diary / notes of your production process. Take still images of the shooting location, cast etc. Evaluate daily your plan, what went well and what did not go according to original plan. Have your project changed much during production process and if it did tell us why. What was your plan B? You can show the communication ( screengrabs ) between people involved in the project, especially if things did not go according to plan. it is important to show how you managed your project and that you were in charge of its development.

Week 10:

EXPERIMENTATION

This week is dedicated for you to try some of your shots and experiment with technically challenging parts of your project. Make sure to record and show evidence of all of your experimentations such as stills, footage etc. Tell us what you were trying to experiment with and what you were hoping to achieve. Tell us how what you were trying to do is going to help your with your projects.

WEEK 9:

INTRODUCTION TO EXTENDED PROJECT PORTFOLIO AND PRE PRODUCTION PLANNING

This week we will be looking at how to create, organize and keep up to date your Extended project portfolio. This is the template that you need to use for your extended portfolio. You need to download the document, save it on your college one drive ( T drive) and share the document with me. It will allow me to check the progress of your portfolio, give you comments and help you create a portfolio that meets all requirements of Unit 13 Extended project requirements.

PREPRODUCTION PLANNING

For the next two weeks you will be involved in pre production planning and experimentation part of your project. This power point will guide you through requirements of pre production process. Different projects will require different type of planning, so make sure to complete only what is relevant to you and YOUR project.

This booklet has all pre – production paperwork within the document, as well as an explanation and guide what to do with it.

WEEK 7/8: (Easter break)

FURTHER RESEARCH

See the source image

This week you will concentrate on identifying further research that you will need to conduct to inform your Extended project. There are four areas of research that you will need to conduct in order to inform your Extended project. Those are: Topic research (this has been covered by Unit 12), target audience research, skills and techniques research and production research. During Easter break you will concentrate on any further topic research that you might want to do, target audience research and skills and techniques research. We will cover pre – production requirements and its research in the  week after Easter Break.

Please follow the slides to inform yourself what research activities you need to do and to see some examples of previous students work as a guidance:

WEEK 6:

PROJECT PROPOSAL

This is the first week of Unit 13 Extended Project with the aim to complete project proposal. We will first be looking at how the research you have done so far will support your extended project and you will question your idea before you start your project proposal.

WEEK 5:

RESEARCH REPORT

This week you will work on finalizing your research study and summarizing your findings through research report. Please follow the guidance on the Power Point, which will help you to give structure to your research findings / report.

WEEK 4:

TOPIC RESEARCH

Last and this week you will concentrate on developing a detail research plan and conduct a research to support your research question. Please follow my slides for guidance. Also, I have given you some examples of previous students Unit 12 work to inform you and give you an idea how to go about this task. Please look at the research ‘mind maps’ that students developed and research methods and techniques they used. it is very important that you use range of research methods and techniques in your research, not just internet based resources.

After the initial stage of creating a ‘mind map’ of possible research activities and instruments you will break the research process down into:

  • Specific questions you need to answer
  • Specific stages
  • Specific research tools and techniques you need to use to answer your questions (to answer who and what and how; primary, secondary etc.)

•  Possible ideas for your topic and a research question could be:

  • Primary: This is anything done by you, and it could be such:
  • Online questionnaire – you could ask your Facebook friends to comment on your project idea and give you some additional ideas how you can approach your project and what to include in it.
  • Get the feedback from your lecturers and comment on it.
  • You can contact companies, council, artist depending on what is your project about to get their opinion on your topic / research question.
  • You can use your phone or tablet to research, take photos as evidence of things you have found out etc.
  • Secondary: You are expected to use at least two of non online resources like books, magazine articles, etc. to inform yourself about research topic and a research question.

Evaluating your research sources:

  • You will summarize each piece of research, evaluating the key points and parts of information, as well as commenting on the validity of the source.
  • How you research findings influence further ideas for Extended project?

EXAMPLES OF PREVIOUS STUDENTS’ WORK

Note: Please do not get overwelmed with the amount of writing with some examples. It is not about quantity it is about the quality and variaty of research methodes and techniques used.

WEEK 3:

RESEARCH METHODES AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

In week 3 your main focus would be to identify research methods and research activities that you will need to conduct in order to inform your research question and the topic of your project.

The work you are expected to produce this week:

In your own words explain different research methods: primary, secondary, quantitative and qualitative. What are their strengths and weakness and the way you can use each method to help you find out answers your research question.

Create a mind map of possible research activates that can inform your research question and your project.

Week 3 video reflective vlog

Finalize research activities for the project

WEEK 2:

RESEARCH TOPIC AND RESEARCH QUESTION

See the source image

In week 2 you will consolidate your research topic and the research questions. For example if you are making a music video your research question might be What makes a successful music video? The research question and the research itself should help you find out about the area of your interest for the FMP and give you confidence in your project.

The work you are expected to produce in week two:

  • Identify Research topic and research question
  • Analyze at least three media products related to your chosen media topic

FMP REFLECTIVE LOGS:

See the source image

You will create a separate blog post and call it FMP self reflective logs.

Form this week you will start doing your reflective logs. We are going to approach this task differently from previous projects. Every week you will do a two to three minutes video vlog ( It can be shorter, but no more than two -three minutes). In you vlog you will address those points:

Your plan for the week. What did you manage to achieve. What did you learn / found out from weakly work. How the work you have done is going to impact your project. What skills did you learn in the week. What do you need to develop / work on further. What is your plan of action if you did not manage to stick to your plan or you are behind.

WEEK 1:

This week we are going to start looking into research part of your FMP. Unit 12 is integral part of your final major project. This week you are expected to complete:

Who am I ? ( piece on camera task)

Mind map of possible ideas for your FMP and research topic

Identify three strongest ideas with strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for each

Justify the strongest idea. What interest you the most about chosen subject / topic? What is it that you want to find out?

Please follow power point slides for guidance on first week tasks and examples of previous students Unit 12 work
